Nazareth College of Arts and Science has established an exam cell to ensure the smooth conduct of internal and external exams for students. Each academic year consists of two semesters and examinations are conducted at the end of each semester. The process begins at the start of every academic year, with the exact dates for the three internal assessments being specified. Additionally, the complete regulations regarding Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA), including examination patterns and evaluation criteria are published in the academic calendar and on the college website. This helps students have a clear understanding of the internal assessments.

Nazareth College of Arts and Science has a transparent mechanism for conducting Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and for addressing issues that arise when handling student grievances. Students are expected to take both tests. Retests will be offered only to authorized participants in sports, games and extracurricular or co-curricular activities.
Students are given the opportunity to improve their performance through model exams. Faculty members handling the subjects are directed to prepare question papers according to the university pattern. The Examination Cell is responsible for organizing invigilation duties, hall arrangements, and seating arrangements.
Internal marks totalling 25 are assigned to students by the class teacher based on individual performance throughout the semester. The breakdown of Internal Assessment, as prescribed by the University of Madras, is as follows: 10 marks for class tests, 5 marks for assignments, 5 marks for seminars, and 5 marks for attendance.
After the assessments are conducted by the Examination Cell, they are evaluated within a week and submitted to the principal. The faculty members then prepare the internal grade sheets and upload the internal marks to the university portal.
The university issues a circular to schedule the practical examinations. The HODs prepare the examination timetable and provide details of the internal and external examiners. The external and internal examiners set the question papers, evaluate the answer scripts and award marks. The mark statements are prepared and signed by both examiners, then sealed in separate covers along with the question paper and handed over to the Exam Cell. The external and internal examiners also conduct the viva voce for the project according to university protocol.
Candidates are permitted to appear for the semester examinations after registering online for all courses, in accordance with university regulations. The exam answer scripts will be handed over to the University of Madras by the Examination Cell.
