The sustainable development goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “Shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. ” The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by 2030. Higher education institutions (HEIs) are essential actors in the promotion of lifelong learning educating the students coming from a diverse population in different stages of their personal and professional lives.

About Nazareth

Compelled by the social urge, driven by the vision to inspire student community the Nazareth College of Arts & Science was established during the year 2000 at the outskirts of Chennai, Avadi with nine undergraduate programmes and four post graduate programmes job-oriented programmes. “Bridging beyond boundaries” being the motto of the institution, the management is keen to fulfil its commitment to the society by bringing in a change in the perspective of every student of Nazareth.
The college is a part of a large educational group called Nazareth group of institutions ma- naged by the C&D trust. The vision of this trust is, to provide education of the highest quality to students to face the challenges of life with responsibility, character, and Value-based education. In true spirit this mission has been pursued for over two decades, reaching a child at a time to transform him / her to a true citizen and a purposeful man/woman.
Various cells and clubs functioning in the college keep the students active in serving the in- terest of the healthy society. Through its various ecosystems like Nazareth’s Transformation Centre, Nazareth Research Park, Nazareth Community Tool Box, Nazareth Centre For Admi- nistrative Excellence, Nazareth Centre For Development Of Teaching and Learning, Nazareth Sports Excellence programme, Nazareth Centre for Faculty Excellence, Nazareth Centre Skill Development Cell & Nazareth Business Learning Centre, Institutional Innovation Cell and Na- zareth Sports Excellence Programme.

SUMMIT SDG 2024

The SDG Knowledge and Education Summit aims to align education systems with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting awareness, capacity-buil- ding, and sustainable practices in educational institutions. It seeks to empower educators, students, policymakers, and institutions to integrate sustainability principles across curricula and activities, fostering future leaders who are socially responsible and environmentally conscious.
As education is a powerful enabler of sustainable development, the summit will explore innovative approaches to ensure that knowledge imparted through education contributes to sustainable lifestyles, equal opportunities, and global well-being.

  • Day - 1

Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future: Knowledge, Integration, and Impact

METHODOLOGY
  • The International Conference will serve as a platform for networking, capacity building, and collaboration, Incorporating innovative ideas such as special address on sub themes, interactive workshops, discussions, exhibition, and field visits (If required-Best Practices) which will enhance engagement and ensure practical outcomes.
OBJECTIVES
  • Encourage institutions to integrate the SDGs across disciplines.
  • Empower teachers and faculty with tools, resources, and methodologies to teach sustainability.
  • Promote student involvement through SDG projects, clubs, and social entrepreneurship.
  • Engage policymakers to align national education policies with sustainable development.
  • Facilitate collaboration between academic institutions, NGOs, government, and private entities to accelerate SDG education.
CONFERENCE OUTCOMES
  • A comprehensive report summarizing strategies for embedding SDGs into educational practices.
  • Creation of a global network of educators committed to SDG-focused teaching.
  • A policy brief for governments and educational authorities to support sustainable education frameworks.
  • Announcement of partnerships between institutions for joint SDG research and community programs through the Nazareth SDG Transformation Centre.
  • Launch of student-driven initiatives and competitions to promote active engagement. Publication of conference proceedings and Handbook of Best Practices in HEIS.
  • Creating an annual award for the Best Practices Based on SDG.
  • Announcing the conduct of this annual event at Nazareth until 2030.
  • Summit Workshop

Practical Integration of SDGs into Educational Systems: Tools and Strategies- MAPSDG

OBJECTIVES
  • This workshop will offer hands-on training to educators, curriculum designers, and institutio- nal leaders on integrating SDG principles into teaching, learning, and institutional activities.
    1. Overview of SDGs and their relevance to education.
    2. Introduction to MAPSDGS.
    3. Practically embedding SDGs into different disciplines.
    4. Design SDG-focused student initiatives and community projects.
WORKSHOP OUTCOMES
  • Participants will develop initial action plans for SDG integration within their institutions. • Hands on training to embed teaching resources, activities, and templates for SDG-focused initiatives.
    Participants will connect with peers and experts for continuous collaboration post-summit. Institutions will share successful SDG integration practices during the workshop. Connect participants to the MAPSDG platform to align curriculum, teaching learning resources, research projects and extension/outreach initiatives.

Practical Integration Of SDGs In Education: NEP 2020, NIRF and the Binary Accreditation Framework (BAF)

This session will explore the intersection between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Binary Accreditation Framework (BAF) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) emphasizing how educational institutions can align with these frameworks and ranking to promote sustainability and quality education. The event will offer practical strategies for integrating SDG principles into academic practices while addressing accreditation requirements and policy mandates.

OBJECTIVES

  • Understand how SDG initiatives can enhance NAAC accreditation outcomes and NEP implementation and Binary Accreditation Framework(BAF).
  • Develop strategies to integrate SDGs across curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities.
  • Explore institutional governance models that incorporate sustainability and policy compliance.
  • Align SDG-based education with the NEP’s emphasis on holistic, multidisciplinary, and experiential learning.
  • Understand the role of sustainability metrics in accreditation and institutional ranking processes.
